About Us
The Highlander-Dunn Institute is a non-profit, educational outreach organization. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Dunn was established in 1999 as part of the Hamilton School at Wheeler's effort "to more broadly disseminate best practices in teaching students with language-based differences."
In 2000, the Institute was renamed in honor of Bradford L. Dunn. In 2009, the Institute solidified its long-term partnership with the Highlander Charter School by merging operations. The Highlander School and Highlander-Dunn Institute now share back office support, joint governance, and programming staff. The two organizations also collaborate on professional development activities (i.e., RI Literacy Partnership Initiative, Orton-Gillingham training, Project Read). However, each is an independent fiscal organization.
Each year Dunn supports more than 250 students through after school and summer tutoring programs, and more than 1,200 educators through professional development and school change initiatives.
